A weekend in Stockholm

Where to stay, eat and shop in Stockholm

We’ve just got back from a long weekend in the gorgeous city of Stockholm and I can’t recommend it enough! There’s so many cool shopping spots, places to eat and things to do it’d be rude not to share my recommendations with you guys!

Where to shop

You Swedish girls are SO lucky with the shopping in your capital city! So many gorgeous contemporary labels and boutique stores, these were my favourite;

Grandpa stocks Ganni, Sandqvist, ATP atelier… This store was recommended on pretty much every Stockholm Guide blog I read! Definitely worth the visit.

Nitty Gritty

Divided into separate men’s and women’s stores Nitty Gritty is a gorgeous concept store stocking Cult Gaia, CDG Play, A.P.C & more… loved the selection and the interior in store!

Acne Archive

The Acne Archive store in Stockholm is so much better than the standard Acne outlets I’ve been to before! Housing the brands samples and last seasons stock, and a decent supply at that! I managed to pick up a gorge mohair jumper and black tee. So pleased! There’s also an Our Legacy workshop/outlet store round the corner so worth a visit at the same time!

An arcade filled with shops such as AVAVAV, Acne Studios, Club Monaco, Samsoe and Samsoe…

Ace and Tate

Also recommend NK (Department Store), Byredo, Posh living (for a drool over homewares)! & By Malene Birger.

Best places to eat

Bananas 🍌

If the below picture isn’t enough evidence that Bananas are your guys for pizza and wine then I just don’t know how to satisfy you!

Absolutely delicious food, friendly staff, lively atmosphere, good music & Instagram worthy interior… can’t recommend this place highly enough!

Surfers serve a selection of Szechuan Chinese food that came recommended to us when we got to Stockholm, and obviously a popular choice as we struggled to get a table!

We eventually managed to get in on a Sunday eve, and I’m so glad we did because this was without a doubt the best Chinese food I’ve had!

The idea is to pick a handful of dishes and share for example; we had lotus fruit and potato in a spicy sauce, chicken in red oil and hot shrimp balls. Hot yet delish.

Other recommendations:

  • Asian Post Office
  • Phils Burger
  • Eataly
  • Nosh and Chow

Stockholm has many attractions & museums to make your visit worthwhile. My personal favourites were;

The Royal Palace

Can’t beat a tour of a palace, and Stockholm’s royal abode was no exception! Interior heaven & especially extra, was weirdly quiet when we visited making the experience even more enjoyable.

The Spirit Museum

We stumbled across a David Shrigley exhibition by accident, ‘giant inflatable swan things’. The swans deflate and re-inflate every 12 mins and it was highly amusing.

Check out my Instagram highlights to see everything we got up to (Instagram.com/fashiongothh)!

The Vasa Museum

This museum came highly recommended, and I was skeptical at first – I hadn’t previously known the history of the Vasa and didn’t really know if I’d be interested. I was definitely pleasantly surprised though, the sunken ship has been perfectly preserved and the story of the ship is rather impressive!

Other recommendations included The ABBA Museum (couldn’t convince a certain person to go)!, The museum of modern art (free entry), & tours of the parliament buildings (we ran out of time)!

Where we stayed

We stayed at the Haymarket hotel, potentially one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed in! The interiors are 1920’s themed (think Great Gatsby), it was very central (about 2 mins from central station), and just generally had a fun atmosphere. I didn’t get any photos of the room so have taken some off their Instagram page to give you an idea (Instagram.com/haymarketbyscandic).
